St. Thomas III

The church of St. Thomas in Pretzien near Magdeburg, Germany. At the Feast of the cross (September 14) the sun directly shines onto the cross as the monks planned and buildet the windows in the back of the church.

It is a well-preserved Romanesque building of undressed stone dating back to 1140. Its construction was ordered by the margrave Albrecht the Bear. The building with its rather plain exterior houses one of the most important examples of Late Romanesque wallpainting in central Germany.
